Make Your Discount Codes Actually Work

Stop forcing people to copy and paste

If you’re sending emails with discount codes, but not using auto-apply links, you’re leaving money on the table. Nothing kills momentum like asking someone to dig through their inbox, find a code, then manually enter it at checkout.

Let’s fix that.

Here’s the short version:

  1. Auto-apply discount links should be used in:

    • Signup forms (thank you page button)

    • Welcome emails

    • Campaigns with a fixed code

  2. URL format for static codes: https://yourstore.com/discount/CODE

    This sends people straight to your site with the code already applied.

  3. Want to redirect them to a product page with the discount applied?
    Use this format: https://yourstore.com/discount/CODE?redirect=/products/your-product

  4. Using dynamic codes in Klaviyo?
    Add this tag to your link:?discount={ { discount_code } }

Pro tip: In your signup forms, make sure the final “success” page has a CTA button that sends people to the store with the code applied. Don’t make them check their inbox just to get the code. You’ll lose conversions.

The goal here is simple: make it stupid easy for someone to give you money.
