Buying And Selling Newsletters

So in case you haven’t noticed, advertising is getting more and more expensive. And I don’t just mean a couple of percentage points here and there, I am talking about the average cost per million impressions on Facebook increasing from $5.75 in 2018 to $15.00 in 2024 (reference). Bigger brands with deeper pockets are here to stay when it comes to who’s buying ad space and that means, it’s harder for your business to get in front of more people, traditionally… by traditional, I mean since 2013… I am 29 after all.

So, to get in front of people with your ads, you are going to have to do one of two things:

1. Increase how much you are spending on ads
2. Looks else for advertising opportunities

That’s where I came up with buying and selling newsletters.

This newsletter alone (yes the one you are currently reading) brings in about $800 a month in revenue through the sale of digital products, advertising and a bunch of other things, and that’s just from a list of 1700. That’s tiny.

I aim to 10x this in the next year along with the revenue it brings in, but while I do that, I also would like to buy other newsletters in specific industries, create content around those newsletters, and run ads on them for brands who to get in front of my subscribers.

And here is why brands would want to do this. If I have a list of say, 20,000 people who have subscribed to a newsletter that focuses on health and wellbeing, for example, those brands know exactly how many people they can get in front of, for a set fee, and what type of engagement they can expect. I can guarantee them a rate that would be lower than say Meta or Google ads.

Advertising is going to change for the smaller guys, and I want to be there in time for it.

I am saying this for two reasons, one because I think it is a cool idea, and two, because if you are a company struggling with rising advertising costs, I think this would be a solid avenue for your own advertising efforts. Find newsletters that talk to audiences similar to your customers, and sponsor those newsletters. Hell, you could even offer a straight affiliate deal and reduce the risk.

Youtube

First thing is first, check out my YouTube channel: click here

Starting next month, I am going to start ramping up my output of YouTube videos focusing on email marketing.

Here is my content schedule:

Monday: Long form
Tuesday - Sunday: one short per day

If you are reading this and you are B2B service business, I highly recommend you do the same. I am a big fan of creating content that lasts a long time and has the ability to bring in organic traffic for a while after it has been put out. Plus, just the nature of email marketing I think benefits a lot from an illustrative video as opposed to a written-out strategy… it’s just easier to follow.

So on that note, check out my channel and brace yourself for perhaps the most stimulating, invigorating content put into a video format, that you have ever seen.

Weekly Tech Spotlight

Friends of In-box, Aimerce have been putting in some work for a few of the businesses I am working with.

In full transparency, Amerce sponsors this newsletter. Aimerce aims to increase flow revenue by increasing the length of the pixel on your website, which allows you to send more abandonment emails.

At the moment we have three businesses using the software and here are the results that we have managed to bring in:

Good - Dates from 20/11/24 - 19/1/25

Client 4 (Good) - Additional revenue of $1,084.31 which is a 6.16% increase in revenue

Starting this week we are actually implementing some strategies to increase the retention rate of first purchases (they sell subscriptions) and this will help us further evaluate the long term viability here, but so far so good.

Mod Dates from 28/11 - 19/1/25

Client 6 (Mod) - Additional revenue of $653.67 which is a 7.55% increase in revenue
