I have talked about this a lot, but this ideology still seems to persist.
I saw this guy last week post the screenshot below, talking about how amazing his work was and how he doubled the email revenue for this client.

Do you notice anything that accompanies the 92% increase in attributed revenue?
Yep, there is also a 20% decrease in total revenue… If you were a business owner, do you think you should really care about that 92% increase when there is a 20% decrease in total revenue?
No.
Email marketers fixate on the metrics that are easy for them to pay attention to because a) they are lazy and b) because it easy to manipulate those numbers.
For example, I could drastically increase the attributed revenue by forcing people to go through the welcome series to get a discount code.
Sure, this would increase the email marketing revenue, but it would do so at the cost of onsite conversions, which in the case above, is what I think might have happened. Email marketers prioritise their own numbers at the expense of the store’s revenue to make themselves look better and portray a false sense a value.
Instead, have your email marketer focus on real revenue, repeat order rate and retention rate. Bonus points if you also get them to sync up with the ads team.
Remember, attributed revenue is vanity and does not equate to actual business success.
