Gmail just had an update

Yes I will be making a video about this

Gmail Is Entering the Gemini Era

Google is rolling out AI-powered features directly inside Gmail using Gemini.

This means there are going to be some changes and they go beyond smart replies or summaries; they’re reshaping how inboxes prioritise, summarise, and present email content.

For email marketers, this isn’t a gimmick; it’s a shift that changes the inbox experience and how your audience sees your messages before they even open them.

Thanks Gavin, so what is actually new in Gmail?

AI‑Powered Inbox Views
Gmail may now prioritise emails based on relevance and urgency instead of a simple chronological list, meaning important messages surface first. Gmail will categorise this for you.

AI Summaries & Highlights
Long conversations can be summarised instantly, giving readers a snapshot of key points without full details. This changes how subject lines and body copy are interpreted.

Smarter Suggested Replies
Gemini enhances auto‑generated reply suggestions based on context, making inbox interactions feel more human and personalised, I already find this a massive time saver.

AI Writing Tools
From drafting to proofreading, Gmail now helps users write emails faster, which may shift expectations toward clearer, more conversational content, this part doesn’t effect email marketers as much.

What This Means for Marketers

AI in the inbox doesn’t replace human creativity; it augments how your messages are seen and filtered.

1. Text Matters More Than Ever

If Gmail is summarising emails before people open them, clear and concise text matters. Image-heavy emails may fall flat if the AI can’t read what’s inside. YOU NEED TO USE TEXT IN YOUR EMAILS. PURE IMAGE-BASED EMAILS WILL NOT CUT IT.

2. Clear Action Signals Win

AI is designed to detect intent. Emails with clear, action-oriented language like “confirm,” “download,” “shop now,” and “complete” are more likely to be surfaced.

3. Smart Segmentation Drives Relevance

As inbox AI ranks messages by relevance, strong segmentation becomes more powerful. The right message at the right time matters more than ever.

4. Plain Text Emails Get a Boost

Text-first messages, founder notes, simple storytelling, personalised follow-ups, may perform better as AI focuses on meaning over design.

The Bottom Line

Gmail’s Gemini-powered inbox raises the bar for email marketing. Your job isn’t to outsmart the AI, it’s to send clear, relevant, human-centric emails that both people and machines understand.

Email is still one of the highest-ROI marketing channels out there. But how you show up in the inbox is changing fast, and the smartest brands are adjusting their strategy now.
