Time Delays In The Welcome Series
Be in their face
The Welcome Series is oversold as one of the most important flows out there, and I am usually pretty ‘meh’ when it comes to talking about these automations, but none the less, here is a tip to improve yours

What I have to sell you
Time Delays In The Welcome Series
If you have two brands side by side, with similar products, similar offers, and similar ideal client profiles, I want you to think about which of these two brands is more likely to win the sale:
Brand 1: Offers 20% off your first purchase for an iron pan. The pan is non-stick (yes, iron non-stick pans exist), has a 30-day money-back guarantee, and offers free shipping. In the Welcome Series, they send an email immediately after sign-up with the 20% offer, followed by two emails spaced 3 days apart.
Brand 2: Identical to the above, which is common in commoditised spaces, but with a Welcome Series that reiterates the 20% offer in three emails sent every 12 hours.
I’m telling you right now, Brand 2’s Welcome Series is going to be more effective. Now, some of you may think that sending too many emails will annoy potential customers.
Wrong.
I’ve tested this across numerous businesses and haven’t seen any spike in unsubscribes due to an increased email cadence in the Welcome Series.
The reality is, in highly commoditised spaces—which most of eCommerce is nowadays—people are price shopping. They’re looking for the best deal. The brand that wins is the one that reiterates its offer the most to these price shoppers during the period when they’ve demonstrated buyer intent.
Send more emails sooner in your Welcome Series. That’s how you win.
Buying And Selling Newsletters (UPDATE)
So, last week I talked about buying and selling newsletters as a side business.
I have some updates.
I believe there are solid revenue-generating opportunities in newsletters, such as selling digital products (which you can find in the bottom section of this email) and through advertising. Moving forward, I plan to grow this newsletter to 10k subscribers and build a separate newsletter focused on online shoppers. This new newsletter will centre on educating people about Google Chrome extensions that help save money while shopping online.
Why have I decided to do this?
You’re already familiar with this newsletter, and based on its reader demographics, the advertising opportunities here are substantial.
As for the newsletter focusing on Chrome extensions:
The idea is simple.
There’s a huge audience of people who want to save money online (especially these days), and plenty of apps are designed to help them do just that. With the right strategy, I believe these apps would be willing to pay for access to an audience like the one I plan to build.
So far, I’ve created and designed a series of emails. The next step is to build a landing page and start running ads to grow the list. My goal is to reach 1,000 subscribers, which I estimate will cost about $3,000 in ad spend. Once I hit that milestone, I’ll proactively start seeking advertising opportunities.
More updates on this to come.
