Update on my business.

These are some of my favourite newsletters to write

Feels like it's been a while since I made an update on my business, and I really enjoy writing these, so without further ado, here's a quick update.

Revenue

Last month we had a really solid revenue month, and we've been really getting into reducing the workload for our teams, increasing the quality, and actually increasing the prices to ensure that our teams can still run profitably while at the same time focus on fewer clients but over-deliver for those fewer clients. Last month, we did about $82,000 in USD and are aiming to get to $100,000 this month. Wish me luck.

Team structure

Up until this month, we've had three full-time teams managing clients. Currently, we structure these teams in a way whereby these teams will work on clients' campaigns and flows at the same time. What ends up happening is the flow work can typically disrupt internally the campaign delivery side of things, which can cause delays.

I shot my friend Adam Kitchen, one of the few email marketing agency owners I respect in this space, just to see how he structured things, and he gave me the confidence to build a separate team that focuses entirely on building out automations.

So for the rest of this month and probably the next half of March, we're going to be focusing on building a team whose focus is to build automations for our clients and not campaigns, while at the same time focusing on looking for existing opportunities for existing clients from a Flow perspective. I think this is really going to streamline things, uncover new revenue opportunities, and really help manage the workload.

Social media strategy

For those who have been following me for a while, they know that on February 1st I launched my social media strategy, pushing out 300 pieces of content a month on Instagram alone and then repurposing it to YouTube Shorts as well as TikTok.

Here's a quick update on that: So far, the social media strategy really hasn't been working super well. Our team structure has been all over the place, and we've had to regroup last week. I'm feeling a little bit more confident about what we're doing, but up until this point our strategy hasn't been super lasered in, or at least not as lasered in as I'd want it to be, and we're having to pivot a little bit more.

Max from Well Copy is probably one of the best people I've seen in this space who has really nailed Instagram and short-form content. We're essentially trying to replicate that strategy. He absolutely crushes it and gives us a bit of a north star.

Apart from that, though, we're still consistently cranking out content:

  • four videos a week on YouTube

  • one post a day on LinkedIn

  • two posts a day on Twitter

  • two newsletters a week as well

Everything else is going well. We just need to laser in on the Instagram side of things.

The school community has been growing steadily. We get about 11 new members every single month, which I'm super chuffed with, and we've been gradually adding new modules as we go as well. In fact, I'm gonna be launching a new design module starting next week. We've actually launched an additional call per week where people can ask any and all questions related to email marketing as well as growing an agency.

The thing is, though, the school's not growing as well as I'd want it to. In fact, I want it to grow even more. I'm going to start launching a free school community, which is a free version of my paid community, starting next week as well. I've got all the content done; we just need to get the landing page videos done. The idea here is that a lot more people will sign up to the free school community, and within that free community, we can then push them to the paid community. I will be announcing this launch next week.

Final thoughts

Overall, business is really good. Growth is happening rapidly. There are just a few things that need to be ironed out to get us to ideally 200k months by the end of this year.

Also, side note, if anyone knows anybody who runs a paid media agency doing under 100k a month, I'd love to connect. We're looking at buying an agency in 2027 and would love to start having conversations about this now
